Yes, very much so.
My wife and I both believed that it was wrong to have sex before marriage, but we talked ourselves into thinking it was okay. I say “we” but the truth is I drove that. We always talked about it as we did more and more, and she always said she was okay with it, but I know I was pushing her ahead of what she really felt comfortable doing.
I believe having sex before we wed significantly added to the sexual problems we had after we got married.
The other thing is becoming sexual when we short circuited the growth of our relationship. We ignored/bypassed some important steps because we were having sex and it felt like we had covered things we had not.
We eventually worked through everything and we’ve had a great marriage and sex life for many years now. However, I think our first two years would have been far easier and less painful if we had waited.
